HEUER Carrera 12 Ref. 2447D 1st Execution

Carreras were introduced in 1964 and were made until the end of 1970.

 

1st Execution Carreras have first execution dials (thin, flat polished steel applied markers) and first execution hands (thin polished steel hands, with luminous inserts). All cases are screw-back, with slots (except for very early cases which had hexagonal case backs).

 

These 1st Executions must have serials between 60xxx and 90xxx, 92xxx at its maximum latest.

The serial number of this one is within the correct range: 78xxx, dating it from around 1967.

 

This particular watch is one of the rarest references, the 2447D. The D stands for "Decimal." Breaking a minute into 100 parts, rather than 60, allowing for more accurate timing calculations and was used for scientific experiments. Of the Carreras made with the decimal scale, this monochromatic black on silver version is the 3rd variant and believed to be one of the rarest. The 1st variant has bright blue decimal scale and silver subs and the 2nd has also a blue decimal scale but not so pronounced.

 

Amongst the monochromatic black decimal scales, this one features the rarest variation; a “cut on 50” at 6 o’clock (about this feature there’s no knowledge for what it was made for, but it’s indeed the least commonly seen), making it stand out of the crowd from other 2447Ds.

 

About condition there’s nothing much to say, it is just perfect. The cheesy tritum is even and matching in all the ways, the sunburst silver dial is gorgeous, with not a single spot (any misprinting or blurriness that you might see it’s due to minor scratches on the crystal, not on the dial). The case is unpolished, conserving the bezel of this famous “60’s style” case. Crown and pushers are original. The case back also remains unpolished and in excellent condition. The signed Valjoux 72 has been fully serviced by our watchmaker and it’s keeping excellent time and the chronograph functions are working as they should.

 

It comes suited on a cool leather strap matching the lume and giving it the correct looks.

 

This is indeed a great opportunity to get, in our honest opinion, the best example of the rare Carrera decimal reference from Heuer. After Carreras are getting so much love these past years, this one just cannot be missed.
