The Rolex Datejust reference 69173, part of the Lady-Datejust collection, was first introduced in the late 1970s and remained in production until the early 2000s. This model is notable for its two-tone construction, combining stainless steel and 18k yellow gold. The 26mm case size is smaller compared to other Datejust models, making it a popular choice for women.
The 69173 is typically equipped with a fluted bezel, a signature feature of the Datejust line, contributing to its refined look. The dial comes in various colors, such as champagne, white, and silver, and is available with different types of hour markers like Roman numerals or baton markers. Some versions of this model even feature diamond hour markers for an added touch of luxury.
Powering the 69173 is the Rolex Caliber 2135, an automatic movement known for its reliability and precision. It has a power reserve of approximately 42 hours and includes a quickset date function, allowing the wearer to change the date without adjusting the time. The watch is often paired with a Jubilee bracelet, which features a five-link design combining stainless steel and gold.
The Datejust line, which debuted in 1945, was the first automatic chronometer with a date display, marking a significant milestone in watchmaking. The 69173 continues this legacy, offering a compact, elegant design that is both timeless and luxurious.
Today, the Datejust 69173 remains highly sought after in the pre-owned market, appreciated for its classic style and enduring popularity. It stands as a testament to Rolex’s tradition of combining functionality with elegance.
Offered for sale here is a ladies Rolex Datejust Ref. 69173 with champagne dial in New Old Stock (NOS) condition which dates to 1987.
The sunburst champagne dial remains excellent, showing minimal wear. The tritium lume plots remain intact and present a creamy patina matching with that on the original hands.
The stainless steel case remains in perfect condition, preserved unworn, with all factory finishes and only very minor storage marks. The 18k yellow gold fluted bezel remains crisp, letting show a lovely patina. The case back preserves the original protective sticker with reference number, being another proof of the unworn conditions it is preserved in.
It is suited on its original Rolex Jubilee 62523D 18 solid-links stainless steel and 18K yellow gold bracelet with 468 B J end links and clasp code J5 that presents no stretch at all, with only some storage marks on the claps, and featuring a lovely patina on the gold elements of the links, giving the watch tons of character.
The original acrylic crystal is clean.
It is running well and keeping time, although service history is unknown.
Furthermore, it comes with the original punched guarantee papers showing it was sold by a Rolex retailer in Venezuela back in 1991.
This is indeed a great opportunity to catch a lady Datejust in unworn condition.
