Offered for sale here is a classic design of a Rolex Datejust Ref. 16000 from 1982 in extraordinary condition.
The silver sunburst dial is flawless, with no signs of wear at all. The complete, puffy, rounded lume plots have aged to a vivid pumpkin patina hue. The original hands are matching perfectly.
The case is thick and very sharp, remaining unpolished and with only light signs of wear. The case back remains in the same condition, where we can still find traces of the original protective sticker. The smooth stainless steel bezel shows only minor signs of wear.
It is suited on its original Rolex Oyster 78360 solid links stainless steel bracelet with 558 end links and clasp code G that is preserved in unpolished condition, with very light wear and with no stretch at all.
The watch is running great and keeping time, although service history is unknown.
The original acrylic crystal remains clean.
It is presented as a full set which includes inner box, calendar, wallet, translation leaflet, punched guarantee papers and original sales receipt showing it was sold by a Rolex retailer in Caracas, Venezuela, back in June 1983, for 3400 Bolívares, or what at the time was little more than 230 USD when Venezuela was already more than 5 months into a huge devaluation after “El Viernes Negro” on the 18th February of the same year.
36mm is the perfect and only size for a Datejust. It’s a timeless design. You can wear it with a pair of Converse or on a suit. The silver sunburst dial is the most common dial, yet the least boring long-term. The smooth bezel makes it more elegant and aesthetic than the fluted one and the Oyster bracelet completes the overall robustness of a Rolex watch.
Macros of the dial and case are available under request.
