Offered for sale here is a Rolex Datejust Ref. 1603 with a lovely, rare, and very sought-after satin gray ‘Ghost’ dial which dates to 1973.
The matte, satin gray ‘Ghost’ dial, nicknamed like this as the white dial printings “disappear” like dissolving with the light gray background under certain angles, is preserved in great condition, showing very little wear. The lume plots have apparently been relumed according to their UV reaction. The original tritium hands show only light wear.
The stainless steel case remains in good condition and shows normal wear from use. The case back remains in the same condition. The steel fluted bezel remains good too, letting show some normal marks from wear and age.
It is suited on its original Rolex Jubilee 7836 folded-links stainless steel bracelet with 55 end links and clasp code S DE6 that presents normal wear and stretch for its age.
The original acrylic crystal has some minor marks that could be easily buffed away.
It is running well and keeping time, although service history is unknown.
This is indeed a great opportunity to catch a Datejust with stunning ‘Ghost’ dial as these are being caught by savvy collectors and remain in their collections.
Macros of dial and case are available under request, as well as movement and inner case back pictures.
