Offered for sale is a Rolex ‘Red’ Submariner Ref. 1680 with MK IV dial from 1972.
The MK 4 dial is simply stunning. It features a deep black texturized matte surface where the red accent of the printings contrast beautifully with it and with the hour lume plots which feature a gorgeous yellow patina hue. The original hands have aged a few shades lighter.
The case shows previous signs of polishing but remains very thick, with plenty of room to work on if wished, and still presenting some of the factory finishes. It shows normal wear. The case back remains in the same condition. The inner case back is engraved with 1680 and IV 70. The original and period correct MK 3 insert remains in great condition, presenting no mayor dents or marks.
The original acrylic crystal has some minor scratches that could be easily buffed away.
It comes suited its original Rolex Oyster 9315 folded-links stainless steel bracelet with 280 end links, clasp dated 1/71 and PATETED divers’ extension that is preserved in great condition, having little stretch and normal wear.
It is running great and keeping time, but the only known service is the one from 1995 described on the Rolex Service Papers from Rolex Mexico that accompanies the watch.
Macros of dial and case are available under request, as well as movement and inner case back pictures.
